Butterfly
Tenergy 05
The Spring Sponge looping reference since 2008 — high throw, heavy topspin, the sheet European coaches still mean when they say “Tenergy”.

About Tenergy 05
Butterfly Tenergy 05 is a 36° High Tension inverted rubber with Spring Sponge and the 05 pimple geometry: taller pimples, a high throw, and the dwell that made it the default World Tour inverted of the 2010s. It is ITTF-approved, made in Japan, and sold in European shops in the usual red/black thicknesses.
On TableTennisReview’s Combined 0–100 index it sits in the high-speed, high-spin OFF band (speed 92, spin 94, control 78). Those figures are official mapping blended with community feel — not a lab test. FX is the same topsheet on a softer sponge; Hard is 43°. 64 and 80 change pimple geometry, not hardness.
Buy 05 if you already loop with a high arc and want a known spare sheet. Skip it as a first tensor after a hobby bat — Vega Europe, Rakza 7 or a used 05 is the kinder on-ramp. Pairing habits: Viscaria or Innerforce Layer ALC in Butterfly bags; the rubber does not require those woods. Street price sits at the top of the inverted catalogue.

Factory thicknesses
Factory sponge thicknesses sold in Europe: 1.8, 1.9, 2.0, 2.1, MAX. These are shopping facts — Combined speed / spin / control on this page do not change with thickness.
- 1.8

- 2.0
- 2.1
- MAX
- 1.8
- Thinner inverted sponge. Allround and first-upgrade backhands live here more often than attacking forehands.
- 1.9
- The usual club backhand thickness on inverted tensors. A bit more control, a bit less catapult than 2.1 / MAX.
- 2.0
- Mid-thick. Common on the backhand when MAX felt lively, or as a two-wing compromise.
- 2.1
- Still a thick attacking sponge. A small step down from MAX on some tensors — shops treat it as the other FH thickness, not a control sheet.
- MAX
- Thickest factory sponge. Most catapult on a tensor; the usual attacking forehand. Combined figures on this page are for the SKU, not a separate MAX score.
