How to choose a table tennis blade
Construction first, name second. Weight and handle still decide more than a one-point Combined gap between two outer-ALC woods.
Start from construction, not from a face print
All-wood (5-ply control, 5-ply OFF−, 7-ply OFF) gives dwell and vibration. Outer fibre shortens dwell and raises first-ball speed. Inner fibre sits between: more kick than wood, more dwell than outer ALC.
Viscaria-type means outer Arylate-Carbon in the 1993 recipe. Innerforce means the fibre is closer to the core. Super ZLC / Super ALC are denser weaves, not “Viscaria but faster” stickers.
A short European ladder
Allround Classic is the control 5-ply you give someone who outgrew a premade bat. Clipper Wood is the 7-ply OFF that has been sold new for decades. Korbel is Butterfly’s 5-ply wood with a clear wood feel. Acoustic is the thin Japanese instrument.
Then fibre: Innerforce Layer ALC if you want Butterfly QC with dwell; Viscaria or Timo Boll ALC if you already loop off the bounce. Zhang Jike ALC is the same outer class, now harder to restock.
Grams and handles
A 5 g swing in the same SKU is a different blade in the hand. Always check the range on the product page. FL / ST / AN change how the head tracks; they do not change the ply recipe.
Pair the blade with sheets you already know before you change both. Setup lab keeps the three pieces separate so you can swap only the wood.
